Overbrook Y.E.S. (Youth Engagement For Safety) Project Update

The OCA sponsored Y.E.S. project has concluded successfully

Congratulations and a huge thank you to our two OCA organizers: Marie-Caroline Badjeck and Marjolaine Provost.

Here’s a summary of the latest and final leg of the project:

    • A new mural was recently unveiled at Horizon Jeunesse (HJ) school, the fruit of a partnership and collaboration between the school, the Overbrook Community Association and artist Jimmy Baptiste (Dopamine) as part of the Y.E.S. project. All HJ students and a group of students from Collège Samuel Genest participated in the production of the mural following social justice workshops on the themes of equity and inclusion. The school thanks the Overbrook Community Association and Jimmy Baptiste for providing students and staff with this authentic, relevant and interactive experience.

    • This activity was the last in the OCA's Y.E.S project, launched in 2021 thanks to funding from the Ontario Ministry of the Solicitor General, as part of a project to combat discrimination and hate crimes in communities. The Y.E.S Project team offered over one hundred hours of community programming, reaching nearly one hundred participants. Activities were organized in collaboration with local artists who shared their passion for mural painting, dance, slam, photojournalism and video editing.  The OCA would like to thank all the partners who contributed to the success of this project, and who have been with us for the past 3 years!

    • Be sure to check out some of the final results in these two social media posts:
